The Kern County Board of Supervisors recognized May 2, 2026 as Wildfire Community Preparedness Day.

In attendance to accept this proclamation was
Battalion Chief Jerry Olson (Bureau of Land Management), Deputy Chief Andrew Kennison (Kern County Fire Department), Chief Aaron Duncan (Kern County Fire Department), Wildfire Mitigation Coordinator Wendy Ward (Kern Fire Safe Council), Outreach Coordinator Kelsey Taylor (Kern Fire Safe Council), and the Kern River District Ranger Nancy Chapman (United States Forest Service-Sequoia).
